Auto-Schedule is a new feature in the Nursa app that allows you to reduce the manual effort put into reviewing clinician profiles and scheduling shifts by seamlessly assigning clinicians you’ve added to your Favorites List to the shifts that you post.
When you enable Auto-Schedule, you will optimize staffing operations, improve schedule fulfillment rates, save time, and shift your focus to delivering exceptional patient care.
Prefer to choose clinicians yourself? No problem—opt in or out of Auto-Schedule anytime, or fine-tune it shift by shift.
How to Auto-Schedule
1. Build Your Favorites List
Auto-Schedule fills shifts only with your favorited clinicians. To add a clinician to your Favorites, (1) go to the data menu, (2) select “Clinicians,” (3) search for the clinician you want, and (4) click the heart icon next to their name.
2. Open Settings and Enable Auto-Schedule
Navigate to settings in the left-hand menu and find the new “Auto-Schedule” option. Turn on the purple toggle switch next to the buildings or units where you want Auto-Schedule enabled.
3. Post Your Shifts
By default, any new shift you post will be instantly scheduled when one of your favorited clinicians requests it. If you don’t want to use Auto-Schedule for a specific shift, simply turn off the purple toggle on the “Add Shift” screen.
4. Streamline Your Scheduling
Once your shifts are posted, Auto-Schedule will handle the requests for you, freeing up your time to focus on what matters most. Easily see and monitor the status of your shifts right from the “Schedule” screen.

Auto-Schedule FAQs
How do I turn on auto-schedule?
Navigate to Settings in the main menu to enable auto-schedule for the facilities you choose. Any requests received from favorited clinicians will be automatically accepted. During the Beta period, your Nursa representative will provide terms and conditions.
Can I set auto-schedule at the shift level?
If auto-schedule is enabled via Settings, it is possible to override the setting and disable it for a specific shift – to post some exception shifts. However, it is not possible to enable it for specific shifts if the general setting is turned off.
Can I change a shift’s auto-schedule status after it’s been posted?
No, in Beta, once a shift is posted you cannot enable or disable auto-schedule for that shift. If there are no requests, you can delete the shift and re-post it.
What if I don’t receive any requests from favorite clinicians?
If no favorited clinicians request to work the shift, requests must be manually reviewed as usual.
If I add a clinician to favorites, will their previously-made requests be auto-scheduled?
No, auto-schedule works by automatically responding to a request. Only new requests submitted after a clinician is favorited will be auto-scheduled.
After I enable auto-schedule, will previously-made requests from favorites be auto-scheduled?
No, auto-schedule works by automatically responding to a request. Only new requests submitted after auto-schedule is enabled will be auto-scheduled.
How frequently can I enable or disable auto-schedule?
Auto-schedule can be disabled or enabled as needed. Turning it on only over the weekend, for example, and turning it off during schedulers’ working hours is possible. Note that if you post exception shifts when auto-schedule is enabled and then disable and re-enable the general setting, any shift-level exceptions will persist.
Can I use auto-schedule for uploaded shifts?
In Beta, uploading shifts (via a .csv file) is not supported. Shifts uploaded cannot be enabled for auto-schedule, regardless of the general auto-schedule setting.
Are there specific notifications for auto-schedule that I can control in the Notification Preference Center?
Auto-scheduled shifts will generate a new in-app notification when a clinician is scheduled. This notification, during Beta, is always sent. Otherwise, auto-scheduled shifts receive the same notifications as manually-scheduled shifts. For Beta, we will also send a confirmation email when auto-schedule is enabled.
Can I use auto-schedule to accept any qualified request?
No, for Beta, requests can only be auto-scheduled for clinicians who’ve previously worked at your facility and have been favorited. See Data > Clinicians for a list of clinicians and add to favorites using the heart icon. In the future we expect it will be possible to use Screening Lists to evaluate clinicians.
How long before a shift should I take action if my shift isn't auto-scheduled?
Manual action might be needed. Although the shift may be albe to be auto-scheduled, we recommend manually scheduling from any pending requests around 24 hours before the shift starts. That way the clinician will have enough notice to plan for and show up to work the shift. Note: In beta, you will be alerted by email if your shift has pending requests at the 24hr mark that require manual action.
