Have you ever quit a nursing job? Why?

Karin Zonneveld

Question

I'm not a nurse, but a nutritionist and I did a hospital internship for my career in two different hospitals. One was a pediatric hospital, and the work environment was really great. The other one was a general hospital, and I remember being locked in the kitchen helping with peeling and chopping vegetables all day long while nobody would talk to us, not even the people in charge. I am so grateful it was just an internship! Otherwise, that's a job I would have quit immediately. How about you? Did you ever have a nursing job that was unbearable?

Heck Yes I have quit! Just one. I worked a full-time hospital job to go into PRN and travel nursing and it was the best move I ever made. I never went back to W2 work since and that was more than 13 years ago. My manager tried to scare me, and told me as a travel or PRN nurse I would have a gazillion patients nad never make it. She was wrong. I loved my other work places way better than that toxic rundown community hospital where nurses bullied and it was all about "who you were", "your last name", "who you were married to", etc. and me being out of town - was always on the outside. I quit and never looked back.
