1 Dorlah Lawrence
Nurses (all licensures and all skill levels) in California are usually represented by Unions/Nursing Associations that negotiates nursing contracts in both the public and private sectors, therefore pay is generally equitable and supports the cost of living in California. Benefits is also a part of the contract negotiations. Nurses play a vital role in these negotiations. Experience, specific skill-sets, and longevity with an entity will allow for higher wages on an incremental basis. Per diem nurses are unrepresented unless they have a contract with represented entities, and therefore are not always adequately compensated in California.
