How do you navigate difficult conversations with hospital administration that may be difficult to work with, or struggle seeing nurses' perspectives?

You have to remember they are humans and have human emotions too. Be confident but not abrasive or entitled. Sometimes you get a real gem of an administrator who wants to help. I've been lucky to work with some good ones. Sometimes they have power to make a difference, sometimes not so much. I do think you can look for opportunities for improvement and come up with solutions. That is huge! Don't come with problems, they get enough of that. Be willing to try for something that could help and be willing to lead it.

  2. What is the process for beginning to pick up hospital shifts with Nursa? I've only ever done long term care. Also, I live in UT if that helps because it's probably a little different in other states, I'm assuming? 🤔

@Tanny Agree completely--even though I am not a nurse, when I worked 7/10's as a lab technician I had to choose between taking a 15min nap or a 15 min snack break. Sometimes thats all you get, so having a snack on hand definitely helps get you through the day! 🙂

@Paola Juarez I agree, I hate choosing because you really do need both!!!

Working as a nurse can be really difficult, let alone as a hospital nurse... so why do you stay?

I'll go first: the flexibility with having a family. Nursa has given that to me!

I love that you asked this Deserae, this is a huge question I have wondered being a nurse myself. Why stay and why do my fellow nurses stay? TBH I have been in nursing for about 5.5 years now and its tough. I have been wandering away from bedside more and more over the last couple years but I do miss it. I think you feel important as a nurse and like you can bring value to this world. And medicine is just fascinating if you take the short staff, politics, and hard hours out of it. There's really nothing cooler.

  5. What the processes are-you don't know until you know and sometimes its just a matter of figuring out what is where and who to turn to for help. That's what I am scared of.

  6. Cardiac unit, i just love the heart.  Or should I say I heart the heart?! 💔 My mom has a really bad heart condition and so its always been really interesting to me.

Doctor: I have some bad news and some very bad news. The lab called with your test results and said that you have 24 hours to live.

Patient: 24 hours! That's terrible! What's the very bad news?

Doctor: I've been trying to reach you since yesterday.

    hahahah that's horrible but good!

  8. That's interesting.. I would be curious. I know as a nurse I felt like 4 was plenty to keep me busy but that was in hospitals. I think it makes it really hard/unsafe to be spread too thin. Mornique how many residents do you have on an average shift?

Ok guys - what are the grossest things you come across as a nurse??? I'll go first: barf. 🤢

The nasty smells in an acute pancreatitis patient's room.... or the nasty stuff under people's abdominal pannuses haha So glad my nurse friends can relate because everyone else just gets so grossed out lol

  10. My mom had an instance last summer where she went into Vtach, had to be intubated and put on a vent, and spent quite the stint in the ICU. The nice nurse there braided my mom's hair for her and I thought it was so sweet (she thought it looked "doofy" in her words-which frankly I was grateful to hear her say anything at that time lol 😉). It couldn't have taken that long but it made a big difference for me and my sister and dad. Its the little things... is this common amongst ICU nurses? I've heard something about it. Or other nurses and CNAs, I am curious what you do, big or small, to make a difference to a worn down family member or patient?
