Β
Do I receive a 2023 1099-NEC Tax Form?
If you earned $600 or more through Nursa in the year 2023, you will receive a 1099 from Nursa. If you earned less than $600, you will not receive a 1099 from Nursa. However, keep in mind that all compensation you may receive through Nursa may be subject to IRS tax laws. Refer to your local state tax laws for more information on reporting income.

Β
If you do not opt-intoΒ a digital or paper copy, you will receive a paper copy in the mail by default. If you are unable to access the app for any reason, you will also receive a paper copy in the mail.Β

You can still update your information in the Nursa App Wallet after mid-January 2024 and download your 1099 electronically. However, you will not be mailed a new paper copy of your 1099 tax form.

Β
Q: How can I see the exact amount I made with Nursa in 2023? A: While there is no running total, you can access your payment paystubs from 2023 in the app.Β If you made less than $600 in 2023Β you can also complete this request form.
Β
Q: What if I made less than $600 in 2023 through Nursa? A: You will not be receiving a 1099 form from Nursa be the end of January 2024. Refer to your local state tax laws for more information on reporting income.
Β
Q: If I worked before Dec 31, 2023 but wonβt get paid until Jan 1, 2024 or later, will that count towards my 2023 taxes? A: The 1099 and tax year reflect the date you were PAID and not the date you worked a shift. If you were paid on Jan 1, 2024 or after, it will be included in your 2024 1099.
Β
Q: How will I receive my tax form? A: You will either receive the form via e-delivery in the app or through the mail. You will need to opt into e-delivery by going to the Nursa Wallet and verifying your information and selecting that you opt-in to e-delivery.Β

Β
Q: I need a 1099 from a previous year (before 2024). How do I get it? A: When you verify your W-9 information and finish, you will be able to access 2023 and previous years 1099 within the Nursa App or contact support.
Β
Q: I have another question, who can I ask? A: For reasons related to your specific tax situation, please contact a tax professional as Nursa cannot provide tax advice. For general questions and troubleshooting, take a look at our Community Articles or get in touch with Nursa Support.

W2 and 1099 for same employer?
So I'm wondering as a nurse what you'd need to do to qualify as both a regular working (W2) and a gig worker (form 1099) legally for the IRS working for the same company and if you could do this using Nursa in a variety of different settings. Different departments, different hospitals, different roles ect.Β
Anyone who could share insights on this here I would appreciate it.Β

Frozen Accounts
Quality patient care requires clinicians to be dependable, responsible, and communicative, and for this reason Nursa enforces a strict attendance policy.
Β
Note: Please be aware that if you're currently frozen but still have scheduled shifts listed on your schedule, you are still expected to work those shifts.
Clinician Calls Outs and No Shows from a Scheduled Shift
If you have already been scheduled and you need to call out from your shift, your account will be temporarily frozen for 14 days if you have:
Four (4)Β Early Call OutΒ
Two (2)Β Late Call Out
One (1)Β No Show
Β
Because this policy is a rolling 30-day period,Β early call outsΒ will not count against you after 30 days.
Deactivations:Β Five (5) totalΒ late Call Outs in a 60-day rolling periodΒ OR three (3)Β No Shows over the lifetime of your account, will result in a deactivated account.
Β
Note:Β If you are unable to work a scheduled shift for any reason, you are required to call out from the shift through the Nursa app, but we also recommend calling the facility and letting them know.
Failure to Complete Background Check Profile
After a clinician requests their first shift,Β Nursa automatically begins the process of requesting a third-party background checkΒ (learn more here). Nursa uses First Advantage and Checkr for third-party background checks.
One of the first steps for the clinician is toΒ complete a background check profile with the third party, andΒ theyβll receive an email invitation to set up their profile, which expires in 5 business days.
If we receive notice that a background check profile invitation has expired, the clinicianβs account will automatically be frozen. This is because the clinician has not shown initiative to take the steps necessary to proceed with the third-party background check.Β Nursa will also automatically resend the invitation, so the clinician can then complete their background check profile and continue the process.
The clinicianβs account will remain frozen until the third-party background check isΒ completed and returned to Nursa with a status of eligible. If the returned status is anything but eligible, or the clinician chooses to ignore the background check invitation, their account will remain frozen.

What challenges did you face? What advice would you give to those just starting out? Letβs learn from each other and make the path smoother for those following in our footsteps! We are also here to support each other and lets work together here to get new Nursa users to that first shift booked!Β

Have the dates we get paid changed?
I know we had gone to two days a week of being paid. Today when it said when I would get paid for a shift it said I wouldn't get paid till the 9th with the 7 days from now. Now I'm worried that it changed and I didn't know. I never got an email regarding the first change to twice a week so now I'm worried that I didn't get the email about it changing back.

Why is my account Frozen?
Why is my account frozen? Β I DID NOT cancel 3 shifts in one month,Β nor did I no call no show. Nursa keeps freezing my account because facility's accepts you 20 mins before the beginning of a shift which forces you to cancel the shift then turns around and freeze your account for absolutely no reason. Why aren't these disgusting establishmentΒ That constantly cancel the workers at the last minute being canceled also? It's obvious that only nurses and nursing assistance recieve unfair treatment from this app

I have not gotten paid in over two weeks. Where is my pay?
I worked on September 12th and 14th, was super happy to get those hours and that pay. Waited until Friday that week, no pay. Waited until the next Friday, same thing, no pay. Talked with payment support like five different times. The payment support specialist was super nice and always trying to get answers for me . But I'm getting frustrated now, I have bills and no money to pay them. I would love for them to get this figured out for the future so it doesn't happen to done one else. Please help me get my money I worked for it. Oh and Stripe is a joke, I mean I can't even see my account with stripe or make one and link Nursa to it so I know what the heck is happen with my money.Β

Safely Dispose of Recalled Eye Products
When disposing of recalled eye care products, it's critical to prioritize safety and health. Start by checking official notifications from the FDA or your healthcare provider. Never flush these products down the toilet or pour them down the sink, as this can contaminate the water.
Instead, mix recalled products with an undesirable substance, such as coffee grounds or cat litter, and seal them in a container to prevent leaks. Then, throw this container away with household trash. Some pharmacies offer drug take-back programs, so consider asking about safe disposal options.
Always remember to avoid sharing eye care products with others, as this can cause adverse effects.
What is the best way to dispose of recalled eye care products? How do you do it or how do you teach your patients? π§

Clinician Call Out Policy
Early Call Out (More than 24 hours from shift start time)
Your first four early call outs in a rolling 30-day period are penalty-free.
Your fifth early call out in a rolling 30-day period will result in a 14-day account freeze.
Any additional early call out during an account freeze results in a new 14 day freeze.
Β
Late Call Out (Less than 24 hours from shift start time):
Your first late call out in a rolling 30-day period is penalty-free.
Your second late call out in a rolling 30-day period will result in a 14-day account freeze.
Any additional late call out during an account freeze results in a new 14 day freeze.
Β
Account Deactivation:
Five late call outs in a 60-day rolling period will lead to account deactivation, resulting in permanent loss of access to the Nursa platform.
Β
*Rolling Period: A continuous 30-day timeframe used to track call outs. Each call out remains on record until 30 days have elapsed since it happened. Your call out record is only βclearedβ once 30 days have passed since the most recent call out.

Clinician No-Show of a Scheduled Shift
No-shows are taken very seriously. A facility will mark you as βNo-Showβ if you did not work your scheduled shift and did not call out the shift on the Nursa app in advance of its start time.Β
Β
If you No-Show to a shift, your account will be frozen for 14 days, during which time you cannot request shifts.Β This is true for your first and second NCNS.
Β
If you No-Show three (3) times over the lifetime of your account, you will be permanently removed from the Nursa app and unable to request shifts.
Β
Note:Β Nursa support is available to answer any questions you may have about the call out policy or frozen accounts, however, they are unable to unfreeze your account early for you.Β
Cancelation by Facility
If theΒ facilityΒ cancels the shift on short notice theΒ facility is penalized.Β There is no penalty for the clinicianΒ and no action needs to be taken in the app. We will let you know and suggest some similar shifts that you could request to replace the canceled shift.Nursa ·

I have yet to work a Nursa shift.. constant cancellations.
aHello!
I have been trying to use the Nursa app for the past month. I request so many shifts, up to 100 miles away at times. And the rare times I get a scheduled shift, I am cancelled within a few hours of the shift start. i have declined other shift opportunities in other platforms when i am scheduled with Nursa. And then at the end, i am left with no shift. this has happened so many times.
itβs infuriating. i feel the facilities need to be held more accountable for their disregard to our time and effort.
i was out with an injury i sustained in my last travel contract in january. and the time not able to work ate my savings. i got released to work a month ago and i am starting a staff position this next week and have been trying to use nursa and clipboard to pay bills until my start date.. so this constant cancellations on nursa is really hitting extra hard.Ali ·

Complete Your Background Check
Every clinician will have a federal background check run. Some states may also require an additional state-level registry or other background check.Β Nursa pays for, requests, and uploads your background checks, but you'll have some steps to do too!
Trigger Your Background Check
To initiate the background check process, you must first upload your Government ID and complete your Wallet.Β
Then, request your first shift through the Nursa App.
Once you request your first shift, Nursa will automatically trigger a two-part background check.Β
Note: We do not accept previously-run background checks.
The federal background check is conducted by a third-party vendor. You will receive instructions via email to complete the necessary steps.
After you submit your information to the third-party vendor, the federal background check typically takes 5-7 business days to complete. Keep an eye on your email for updates.
Most are marked eligible, if marked ineligible, you will hear from our teamΒ
Β
Because Nursa pays for background checks, we want to ensure that all clinicians using the Nursa app are committed to the shifts that they request. For this reason, we do not initiate the background-check process until you request your first shift.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1.Β Requesting your first shift triggers the background process on our end.
Β
2. Nursa pays for all background checksΒ EXCEPTΒ any finger print requirements
Β
3. Please ensure that you haveΒ uploaded your Drivers License or State IDΒ to the app as well asΒ completed your WalletΒ before requesting your first shift. That information is necessary for the background check.
Β
4. If Your background check returns as ineligible you will need to reach out to your state to resolve the issue

Lesson 3: Facility Screening Lists
Now that youβre connected to your facility, letβs walk through Screening Lists.
Β
Your Screening Lists are set lists of credentials that you want to see in the clinicians that you hire. Every Screening List includes Essential Credentials. Nursa automatically includes these based on whatβs most important in the healthcare industry, but you should add any others that your facility requires or would prefer to see in your clinicians.
Β
Note: If you don't edit your Primary Screening list, it will simply include the default Essential Credentials and state essentials.
Β
When you post shifts, youβll choose which Screening List you want for that particular shift and will be able to see how clinicians who request the shift match your preferred credentials.
Β
Building Your Primary Screening List
Tap Menu in the top left Tap FacilitiesΒ to see all of the facilities youβre connected to Select the specific facility Scroll down to Screenings Tap the pencil icon on Primary Screening
Note: Youβll see the Essential Credentials and Credentials InΒ State β these cannot be edited or removed Under Other, you can choose from the categories then add desired credentials
Tap the pencil or + icon
Tap the purple + to add a credential or the purple x to remove it
Tap the purple check mark to confirm selection
Once all credentials are added, tap Confirm Β
Your Primary Screening List is now set up!
Β
This will be your default list for all shifts that you post, but you can also create as many Alternate Lists as needed, say for a different shift or for a specific license.
Creating Alternate Screening Lists

Facility Screening Lists
Facility screening lists
When a facility posts a shift on Nursa, they often use a Screening List to help match with clinicians who meet their specific needs. These lists are made up of credentialsβlike certifications, vaccinations, or other requirementsβthat a facility wants to see in the clinicians they work with. Screening lists play a big role in the Auto-Schedule feature.
Why do screening lists matter?
Screening Lists play a big role in whether or not you're selectedβor even Auto-Scheduledβfor a shift. The more credentials youβve added to your profile that match a facilityβs list, the better your chances of getting booked by that facility.
Pro tip:
Some shifts are only available to clinicians who meet all the requirements on a Screening List. Others may prioritize those who do.
How to view screening lists
When requesting a shift, select the facility and scroll through their profile to view "Primary Screening" to see what items are on there. In general, adding more credentials is only beneficial to you. Some best practices are:
Keep your credentials up to date
Add as many relevant certifications and licenses as possible to your Nursa profile
Pay attention to state-specific or role-specific requirements
Pro tip:
Want a better shot at Auto-Schedule? Matching the Screening List is often a must. Learn more about Auto-Schedule here.
How to Add Credentials to Your Profile
Tap Menu
Go to My Profile
Tap Credentials
Upload documents or photos of your certifications
Follow instructions to add additional credentials and experience
Your profile will automatically update for facilities to review. This helps you stand out and builds trust with facility partners.
Whatβs Next?
Once your credentials are in, explore shifts that match your skillset. The more aligned you are with a Screening List, the faster and easier it is to get booked.

Urgent Shifts - SOS
Occasionally facilities have urgent shifts that need to be filled last minute, which are labeledΒ SOS Shifts. Due to the urgent nature of these shifts, they can pay up to 40% more per hour!
To Qualify for SOS Shifts/Alerts
You must have completed at least one shift and have a 70% or better reliability rating. As long as you have successfully completed more than 70% of your scheduled shifts, you will be able to request SOS Shifts. However, if your rating falls below 70% (from things like calling out from scheduled shifts or no showing) then you will no longer be able to request SOS shifts.
Β
There are two things thatΒ must be set up to receive SOS alerts.Β First, you must select the times that you are available, which is done in the Nursa app. Second, you must have your Location Services turned on on your device and enabled for the Nursa App.
Set SOS Alert Times in the App
TapΒ MenuΒ in the upper left corner
SelectΒ Settings
TapΒ Communication Preferences
UnderΒ SOS Alerts,Β tapΒ Customize Preferences
Select the day and shift combinations for when youβd like to receive SMS text alerts for an SOS shift

Shift Notification issues in the app/site
After checking the site for shifts, if I fail to find something I can request, I keep my eyes on the "notifications" to see what new needs come along. Unfortunately, the way they are currently set up they don't show what shift (day, evening, night/NOC) in the notification itself, meaning I have to look at them all just to see if the time works for me or not. Mostly not. It can also get flooded with notifications if I'm away for a while. (I ran errands earlier for 1 hour and there were 50 in there when I got back, 49 for the same facility, and 1 for a separate facility!) And while I have a "mark all as read" option, there isn't an option to "clear" them all. And if I don't click directly ON the X, it takes me back to the details. Huge waste of my time sometimes! What's truly irritating is that I've set up my shift filters to show a group of particular facilities, as well as my license and state, and checking the details wipes all of that out. It takes me quite a bit of searching to find all the different facilities (approx 40 facilities) and rebuild my shift preferences via the filters, only to have it destroyed so easily! So my suggestions are a "clear all" as well as the mark as read, and including the shift time within the notification itself as well as the date. And it would also help if once you DID view a facility from within the notifications, the notification would either vanish, or change from unread to read or to viewed.Β Β
Β
I also agree with the other post regarding incorporating a distance perimeter setting.

Not a single Notification
Ever since I did the new update two days ago I have not been able to see any notifications, on the app or using my cellphone internet browser. I was lucky to have access to a desk top and finally then was able to see my notifications to end my shift report.Β
They said manyΒ clinicians are calling in with the same issue and they are working on it.Β
But if you do request a shift. You will need to keep checking "schedule " to see if you got approved don't want a NCNS ! Then ask the facility to fill out their shift report so it get sooner if you're unable to do your end shift report.Β
I just put in two request for the 5th. I had also reached out to the facility and told them the issue Nursa is experiencing on theΒ clinicians side, to please reach out and let me know if I get approved.

How are these facilities getting away with taking money away from nurses when they go over the scheduled time due to an emergency or a fall. Facility canceled a shift I worked
I worked a shift recently and the facility canceled the shift 2 days after. Now the RCC is saying I didnβt work the shift, but the employees know I did. How do I get paid for working that shift?
Linx13 ·
-
Payout
Iβm extremely frustratedβ¦ In the app it offers, once you work 3 shifts you qualify for instant pay. What they donβt mention is itβs not vastly available in most states. Itβs gravely irritating and frustrating that it offers pay is done on Mon and Wed then takes 2-3 days for it to appear in your acct. What I have learned is, as the medical staffer, we are expected to show up promptly and complete the shift to the facility expectations. However, they can take there time to complete the shift report. I worked a shift, itβs now been a week ago and it just now has been processed but I still have to wait 3 days for it to hit my acct. When most of these shifts are anywhere from 60-240 miles from my home. My gas tank doesnβt allow me to say βI know your empty but we must go to work anyway.β It takes money! My daycare provider does not allow me to say βsorry, I still have not been paid, so you have to wait.β Why is it acceptable for the facilities to take there sweet time to confirm you did the job? Working with Nursa, your payday is too unpredictable. That shows great unprofessionalism. There are so many other agencies that provide same day pay, I try to a avoid Nursa staffing as I have to ensure income in a timely fashion. Β In addition, if they are going to expect folks to assist with facilities it would be great if they offered the standard federal mileage reimbursement or lodging for back to back shifts at same facility. Especially as they allow pay to be delayed. I try not to recommend Nursa to my colleagues as I donβt like to hear the same bothersome complaints of 1. Payout 2. Unpredictable acceptance of shifts 3. Distance to facility without compensation 4. Often not having oncoming nurse coverage making you responsible to stay 5. Lack of communication from facility, especially related to several admissions 6. Facility expectation of you being the scape goat for the heavy unpleasant work load while the perm staff coast through the shift 7. Overall dissatisfaction with unprofessional tactics allowed from facilities. Staff being held at higher expectations then that of the facilities. Penalizing staff for need to cancel but βoh wellβ when the facility does.Β

How to document inappropriate patient behavior?
Healthcare professionals must document instances of inappropriate patient behavior. How do you do so? First, objectively narrate what happened with as many specific details as you can remember. Don't forget to write down any other relevant details, such as witnesses, your response to the situation, and any underlying conditions that might be affecting patient behavior.
Documentation needs to be properly handled with confidentiality.
