I wouldn't say I've felt helpless because no matter the situation, I speak up. Even if it's just how they are rotating the resident. I would take initiative to show them how to use body mechanic that will be more beneficial for everyone.
Speaking up is important! I'm sure that sets the precedent and a great example for your coworkers as well!

Nothing has happen yet thank goodness!! But what I have noticed is some facilities I go to, through Nursa. They are assistant living and there in house staffs are CareGivers. And they do some unethical procedures. I am showing them how to properly transfer residents, they do not use equipment since none are trained and would make it a skilled facility. But I definitely feel I have more at risk then the caregivers. Since they don't have such weight over them and they can find a new job this is my career.
Oh thank goodness nothing has happened to you yet! That is scary about the unethical procedures used, though. How do you combat this, or do you sometimes feel helpless in these situations?

Clinicians are always faced with the constant fear of losing their license... has there even been a time you thought in the moment you were going to lose it? What happened?

You can read about it. The article doesn't explain it fully, but they wanted flexibility with days off and the hospital wouldn't budge. The hospital also made a ton of money and was being super cheap.

I hate that the hospitals are being cheap. In the end it's just more detrimental for them.

I’ve worked 11 strikes over the last 16 years in various states. My personal advice not professional advice is this. To know something is by obtaining knowledge first handed with your own eyes that seen, your ears that heard and the miles on your own shoes. Take nothing for face value, fact check the words said of everyone and everything while obtaining true and factual knowledge. Regardless of how controversial, unpopular within your social and societal taboo’s, even if it doesn’t aligned with your belief’s and morals. Seeking knowledge is vital, obtaining that knowledge and is invaluable and I believe that is where wisdom starts. Strikes are not glamorous and no richer than the day before. I’ve seen the ugliest of characters and the most remarkable characters (life changing characters!) at every strike. With all that being said I pass on this truth, your going to see the same nurses at every strike. They’re all from same geographical area of the states. Most, embarrassingly are not bright and have an educational Tread lightly, no one is your friend or wants to you succeed. You only have yourself to depend on, so be the you that’s knowledgeable and seeks wisdom.
11 strikes in 16 years?!? I asked the right person lol! I love that you talked about just obtaining knowledge, even if it doesn't align with your personal beliefs. It's always good to be well-versed and knowledgable. I've never participated in a strike myself but why do you feel like so many of the nurses showing up to strikes are not super bright??

My sister participated in a 5 day strike recently. They were offering $14,000 a week for replacement workers. They caved eventually and met their demands.
Wow that's wild! Also curious to know what the demands were

Has anyone ever participated in a hospital strike and open to sharing about their experience?

I love the idea of tuition reimbursement! Offering scholarship as well is also a great option for a benefit. Nurses are commonly wanting to progress in their education or career, so this is great.

Amazing! Thank you for your incredible service, Abigayl!

This is a great question! And very applicable since Nursa is really rolling out lots of hospital shifts. From what I've gathered, you need a certain amount of hospital experience to work particular units, which is the first step! Then you'll just want to upload more credentials to your profile than you would long-term care shifts. After that you'll do a shadow shift/orientation 🙂 pretty easy!

Doctor: I have some bad news and some very bad news. The lab called with your test results and said that you have 24 hours to live.
Patient: 24 hours! That's terrible! What's the very bad news?
Doctor: I've been trying to reach you since yesterday.
