  5. If you have an evacuation plan, follow procedures and look for shelter. You need to prepare in advance for evacuation: plan how to get to the shelter, and how to get your family and loved ones there. If you are going to shelter in your home, stay indoors, stay safe in an interior room, closet, or bathroom on the lowest floor of your home, away from windows. However, prepare for flooding and avoid swimming and driving through floodwaters. Remember to stay informed with a battery-powered radio to receive updates about the hurricane. Try to stay calm at all times; it's easier to stay calm when you have a plan. How else can you prepare for a hurricane?
