MAJOR FRUSTRATION
Hey All... Let me begin by stating a few known facts. First, I, and I'm sure everyone else here, is aware that we are ALL BUSY and time is something that there is never enough of. Especially in the health care industry. Secondly, I am begging all of the facilities and schedulers to be more mindful of when they schedule a nurse/CNA for a shift we often become dependent on the money we are about to make for the shift. And I am also aware that nobody truly knows what is going on in the clinicians private life or their finances. Unfortunately the per diem shifts are all some of us have to rely on for income and when we are scheduled for a shift/shifts and then the shifts are cancelled on us it hurts!! I cannot even begin to tell you all how many times I was scheduled and drove over an hour to the facility only to arrive and see that I am not on the schedule at all?! Then there is the scheduler messaging me to let me know that I have been approved and scheduled for 4 of the 6 shifts I requested, wonderful! Then I have two of them cancelled on me last minute and the best thing...to ask the DON which unit I will be working this overnight shift. She sends me a photo of the schedule and I'm nowhere to be found on it? This is a shift that was set in stone with the facility 5 days ago? Then I'm told that the scheduler hasn't been feeling well and sincerely apologizes. Okay, that's great, but my shift was never cancelled through the app and as a matter of fact it's still showing that I'm working tonight. I'm sorry but this is not right and I am not disposable. I also have bills and responsibilities. I take care of my elderly mom who is 88 years old and my mentally disabled nephew, by myself because my entire family has bowed out of the picture completely. I'm not complaining but what's difficult is that I had been traveling for the past 5 years and making pretty decent money. I cannot due that at this time due to my mom having some unexpected health concerns. And there is nobody else to care for her. Trust me, I've had services in place for her several times but she's a bit OCD and believes nobody else can clean the house to her standards lol I want to ask why Nursa doesn't adopt a policy that if a clinician is scheduled, drives to said facility and then is turned around and sent home because the facility didn't cancel the shift or they double booked it, the clinician is paid for HALF of the shift?? Clipboard is sometimes difficult to work for due to increasingly strict policies but at least they do compensate the clinicians in the event something such as that takes place. It should be the facilities responsibility to pay and Nursa needs to bill them. What are everyone else's thoughts??

Facility Chat
Hey all...so I'm a seasoned RN with almost 20 years under my belt. 99.9% of which has been dedicated to LTC/SNF. The past 5 years have found me all over the map as a traveler. I have also held positions as a Supervisor, both as staff and a traveler. The past year, due to circumstances beyond my control, I have had to come off the road and begin utilizing these per diem apps in order to supplement my income. While they are convenient for myself and also assist local facilities with their staffing shortages, I find them to be lacking in the professional and communication categories. As a professional I believe that clear and prompt communication is key for all involved. However, this is where I become frustrated and at times wanting to scream?! I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have reached out to the schedulers through the chat feature only to be completely ignored. I'm sorry but to me I find it to be extremely unprofessional and above all RUDE. This is only My opinion. I'm just curious to find out if this is something that only happens to me or is it a universal problem? If it does also happen to anyone else here I'd be curious to find out how everyone else feels on the topic and how you deal with it??! Thanks so much!

International Scurvy Awareness Day
Scurvy was a disease I associated with pirates π΄ββ οΈ and long-gone times, but scurvy is still a current concern. A study titled "The Troubling Rise of Scurvy: A Review and National Analysis of Incidence, Associated Risk Factors, and Clinical Manifestations" found that the incidence of scurvy increased from 8.2 per 100,000 in 2016 to 26.7 per 100,000 in 2020 in the United States. I recently heard comedian Josh Johnson joke about how a childhood friend would never eat the healthy snacks her parents sent, and ended up being diagnosed with scurvy. How can healthcare professionals encourage families to eat healthier diets with at least the minimum recommended portions of fruits and vegetables? Scurvy really should be a thing of the past. In honor of International Scurvy Awareness Day (which just passed on May 2nd), do your best to spark conversations with patients and spread awareness!
