    2 - Build Your Profile

3 - Add Payment and Tax Information

Complete your Wallet section to complete your electronic W-9 form and designate your preferred payment method. Pro tip: By selecting Nursa Direct you are setting yourself up for Instant pay.

    4 - Initiate Background Checks

Visit your “Shifts" section to request your first shift, which will kick off the background check verification process automatically. All states require a federal background check and some states may have additional state-level registry or background check.

    1. Request First shift (What if I am unable to see shifts in my area?)
    2. Look out for emails on behalf of Nursa to initiate your background check process (make sure to check your Spam folder). Failure to complete your background check in a timely manner may result in your account being frozen.
    3. When completed Nursa will upload to your account. If background check is marked ineligible, our team will reach out to you with more information.

What if I am unable to see shifts in my area to request a background check? Some locations may not yet have Nursa shifts readily available for you to request. In these cases, our team will initiate the background check for you if you have the following information in your profile:

    Get Scheduled

1 - Find and Request Shifts

Go to the “Shifts” page to find and start requesting shifts. Utilize filters and become familiar with the schedule page. If you see a shift with a “More Info” button instead of a “Request Shift”, by clicking the “More Info” button you will receive more information through email on how to be able to request shifts at that facility. Request Shifts

    Pro tips when first requesting:

    2 - Get Scheduled

When scheduled, you will receive a notification and the shift will be added to your schedule. Update communication preferences to be notified how you wish when you are scheduled for a shift.

3 - Preparing for Your Shift

To familiarize yourself with the facility at which you are scheduled, view the shift details to find the facility address, pictures, facility-required breaks (where applicable), number of beds, and shift instructions, etc.  The shift details are the facility’s way of letting you know what to expect for the shift.

4 - Review and acknowledge our Cancelation and NCNS Policies.

Once you are scheduled, make sure that you are available to work the shift. It is your responsibility to cancel the shift via the app if you won’t be able to make it. Our cancellation policy aims to help us maintain the highest standards of integrity and reliability, to ensure a quality experience for all of the users of our platform.

    5 - Adjusting Your Notifications

Turn your notifications settings on to allow mobile push notifications, SMS, and emails to ensure you receive important updates about your upcoming shifts and newly-posted SOS shifts.

Your first shift can be daunting, with uncertainties about the environment, location, assignments, and more. However, fellow clinician Janalen and facilities have given us a few tips to share*.

    Tips from the Facility:

    1. Checking in and Checking Out: Check-in when you arrive on the shift within the app by clicking “I’m Here”.  This helps the facility know when you have arrived. Also, you can use the in-app chat to message the facility admin and let them know you have arrived at the facility.

    2. Facilities love reliability: A few tips to show you are reliable

    • Avoid last-minute cancellations
    • Arrive a few minutes before the shift starts to get oriented with the facility,
    • Maintain professionalism and focus throughout your shift.

    3. In-App Messaging: Send an in-app message to the facility asking any questions you may have.

These facility tips will help you build a positive reputation and relationship with the facility.

    Tips from fellow clinician, Janalen:

    1. Ask questions: To understand your assignment better, you could bring a notebook and pen to capture important information that the facility or its staff gives you.

    Sample Questions may include:

    • Where is the soiled utility?
    • Where do I find clean linens?
    • Do I need to take vitals on this shift?
    • Who are the people that are max transfers?
    • Is there a patient/resident that is going to require more attention than others?

    2. Facilities and staff notice when you help your peers

    • If you’re a CNA, it can be hard to offer help to a nurse but still extending an offer shows your qualities as a team player and is always greatly appreciated.
    • Answering another nurse’s call lights
    • Offer to help other nurses with their med pass or other tasks
    • Be transparent! “Hey I can’t help you right this moment but let me answer this call light, then I can help you”

    3. Detailed report: Facilities often need you because they are having staffing emergencies. This can mean that you get more patients/residents than in a typical nursing environment. Reports between facility staff and PRN staff can get messy. Get the most detailed report possible.

    • Check your charting system for notes, precautions, and other information
    • Find out what patients can tell you what they need vs. the ones that can’t.
    • Prioritize your Q2’s and heavy wetters.

    4. You are running your own small business, be sure to represent yourself well. Facilities will start asking for you by name and texting you shifts directly when you go in and shine.

*These are tips given by facilities and clinicians and are merely suggestions on feeling prepared.

    Start Requesting Shifts

    Get Paid

Nursa does not use clocking in/out or physical time sheets. When you arrive at a shift you can go to the app and confirm "I'm Here". At the end of the shift, you will receive a notification to complete a Shift Report where you will enter times worked including any breaks. This should be completed within 7 days, so as to not time out.

In order to help both clinicians and facilities with their payment processing, Nursa offers two different ways for you to be paid: either direct deposit to a traditional bank account or to a Nursa Direct bank account powered by Branch. You can choose which payment method you’d prefer and can switch at any time. Here’s how:

1 - Add Payment and Tax Information

Visit your Wallet section to complete your electronic W-9 form and designate your preferred payment method.

Pro tip: By selecting Nursa Direct you are setting yourself up for quicker pay. Find more information here.

2 - Explore Nursa Payment Options

Nursa Direct - Fast and Instant Pay (preferred)

Nursa Direct is a business debit Mastercard and bank account that offers the ability to get paid instantly for shifts as well as additional benefits.  Nursa Direct is a service provided by our partners at Branch Messenger, Inc. and Evolve Bank & Trust.

When first setting up your wallet you are able to immediately opt into Nursa Direct for your payment option.

    • Before 3 completed shifts, or ineligible shifts: Funds paid to your Nursa Direct account within 2-3 business days (weekends excluded) after submitting your Shift Report.
    • After 3 completed shifts, and eligible shifts: Instantly after shift.

Learn more about how to get Nursa Direct and how it works in this article.

    Traditional Payment - Twice Weekly

The traditional Nursa payment option pays out twice a week for shift reports completed within the payment timeframe (see payment schedule below). We process payments on Mondays and Wednesdays, and you'll receive your deposit in your bank account within two days.

    • Shift reports must be completed by Sunday night at 23:59 by both clinician and facility in order to get paid with the Monday batch, receiving your payment by Wednesday.
    • Shift reports must be completed by Tuesday night at 23:59 by both clinician and facility in order to get paid with the Wednesday batch, receiving your payment by Friday.

Note: Facilities have two full business days* to complete their shift report after a clinician completes their shift report. If the facility has not confirmed the shift report within that time frame, it will automatically be verified to ensure that clinicians are paid in a timely manner.

*Business days do not include Saturday, Sunday, and Federal holidays.

3 - Complete Digital Shift Report within 7 days

Once a shift has been completed, you can find the shift report in your app notifications or in the schedule section. Select the shift you wish to verify and follow the prompts to report your time on shift at the facility. Make sure to report any breaks you took. Any facility-required breaks will be pre-populated in the shift report. The Shift Report will need to be completed within 7 days of shift end. Please review terms of service for all terms about how Nursa processes payment for our facility and clinician users.

    4 - Receiving a 1099-NEC form from Nursa

If you earn more than $600 through the Nursa platform in a given year, you will receive a 1099-NEC form from Nursa. Learn more about taxes while using Nursa here.
