Why does interprofessional communication matter?
Crystal Baker Shoaie posted a question in Career Advice
How can strong interprofessional communication be a game-changer in delivering top-quality patient care? I would love to hear some of your thoughts on this. -
I was at a Concert Friday night at around 10:30 I was scheduled for a shift that started in 2hrs! Mind you I had requested this shift Friday morning. I worked the shift a full 8hrs the facility reported I worked 2hrs so Nursa said I owed money back. The next shift I worked I was only paid $5!!!! They took my money because the facility made a mistake! Nursa notified me since it is a holiday I will not have the issue fixed until Tuesday!!!! So today I go work for this facility AGAIN! Why? Because Nursa ALLOWED them to schedule me a shift at 3:30am that began at 4pm. I was scheduled a shift while sleeping for a shift I had that started at 6am at a different facility. So I had to work 6am to 12pm today! That wasn’t the kicker! This same facility was able to schedule me for 12am to 8am while I was there already working! And they scheduled me 2hrs before the shift started AGAIN!!!! Last time I checked that should have been a SOS shift and paid more for last minute! How is Nursa allowing these facilities to treat us as ON CALL STAFF! You can’t even go back and remove a request on some of the shifts after to request because they DISAPPEAR! You don’t see them again until your scheduled. And also how is Nursa allowing us to be scheduled for 24hrs shifts! If I worked 6am to 12am how can I also be scheduled 12am to 8am? And what happened to HOLIDAY PAY? I worked a lot of shifts this holiday weekend and basically was paid pennies!

How to Auto-Schedule Auto-Schedule Benefits Auto-Schedule FAQ Auto-Schedule is a new feature in the Nursa app that allows you to reduce the manual effort put into reviewing clinician profiles and scheduling shifts by seamlessly assigning clinicians you’ve added to your Favorites List to the shifts that you post. When you enable Auto-Schedule, you will optimize staffing operations, improve schedule fulfillment rates, save time, and shift your focus to delivering exceptional patient care. Prefer to choose clinicians yourself? No problem—opt in or out of Auto-Schedule anytime, or fine-tune it shift by shift. How to Auto-Schedule 1. Build Your Favorites List Auto-Schedule fills shifts only with your favorited clinicians. To add a clinician to your Favorites, (1) go to the data menu, (2) select “Clinicians,” (3) search for the clinician you want, and (4) click the heart icon next to their name. 2. Open Settings and Enable Auto-Schedule Navigate to settings in the left-hand menu and find the new “Auto-Schedule” option. Turn on the purple toggle switch next to the buildings or units where you want Auto-Schedule enabled. 3. Post Your Shifts By default, any new shift you post will be instantly scheduled when one of your favorited clinicians requests it. If you don’t want to use Auto-Schedule for a specific shift, simply turn off the purple toggle on the “Add Shift” screen. 4. Streamline Your Scheduling Once your shifts are posted, Auto-Schedule will handle the requests for you, freeing up your time to focus on what matters most. Easily see and monitor the status of your shifts right from the “Schedule” screen. Auto-Schedule Benefits for Facilities Time Savings–Set It and Forget It: Simplify staffing by auto-scheduling your favorite clinicians, allowing you to spend more time delivering patient care. Schedule Clinicians You Know and Trust: Ensure consistent quality by using Auto-Schedule to staff shifts with only trusted clinicians from your Favorites List. Fill Shifts With Speed: Gain peace of mind and better secure your top-choice clinicians by scheduling requested shifts instantly with Auto-Schedule. Flexibility In Choice: Stay in control with Nursa’s Auto-Schedule— easily turn it on or off anytime, even for individual shifts. Auto-Schedule FAQs How do I turn on auto-schedule? Navigate to Settings in the main menu to enable auto-schedule for the facilities you choose. Any requests received from favorited clinicians will be automatically accepted. During the Beta period, your Nursa representative will provide terms and conditions. Can I set auto-schedule at the shift level? If auto-schedule is enabled via Settings, it is possible to override the setting and disable it for a specific shift – to post some exception shifts. However, it is not possible to enable it for specific shifts if the general setting is turned off. Can I change a shift’s auto-schedule status after it’s been posted? No, in Beta, once a shift is posted you cannot enable or disable auto-schedule for that shift. If there are no requests, you can delete the shift and re-post it. What if I don’t receive any requests from favorite clinicians? If no favorited clinicians request to work the shift, requests must be manually reviewed as usual. If I add a clinician to favorites, will their previously-made requests be auto-scheduled? No, auto-schedule works by automatically responding to a request. Only new requests submitted after a clinician is favorited will be auto-scheduled. After I enable auto-schedule, will previously-made requests from favorites be auto-scheduled? No, auto-schedule works by automatically responding to a request. Only new requests submitted after auto-schedule is enabled will be auto-scheduled. How frequently can I enable or disable auto-schedule? Auto-schedule can be disabled or enabled as needed. Turning it on only over the weekend, for example, and turning it off during schedulers’ working hours is possible. Note that if you post exception shifts when auto-schedule is enabled and then disable and re-enable the general setting, any shift-level exceptions will persist. Can I use auto-schedule for uploaded shifts? In Beta, uploading shifts (via a .csv file) is not supported. Shifts uploaded cannot be enabled for auto-schedule, regardless of the general auto-schedule setting. Are there specific notifications for auto-schedule that I can control in the Notification Preference Center? Auto-scheduled shifts will generate a new in-app notification when a clinician is scheduled. This notification, during Beta, is always sent. Otherwise, auto-scheduled shifts receive the same notifications as manually-scheduled shifts. For Beta, we will also send a confirmation email when auto-schedule is enabled. Can I use auto-schedule to accept any qualified request? No, for Beta, requests can only be auto-scheduled for clinicians who’ve previously worked at your facility and have been favorited. See Data > Clinicians for a list of clinicians and add to favorites using the heart icon. In the future we expect it will be possible to use Screening Lists to evaluate clinicians. How long before a shift should I take action if my shift isn't auto-scheduled? Manual action might be needed. Although the shift may be albe to be auto-scheduled, we recommend manually scheduling from any pending requests around 24 hours before the shift starts. That way the clinician will have enough notice to plan for and show up to work the shift. Note: In beta, you will be alerted by email if your shift has pending requests at the 24hr mark that require manual action.

I can on here to say that after working for Nursa for a year things have gone downhill with them. I get “accepted” for a NOC shift and don’t look at other options because I’ve been “accepted “ yet, hours before my shift I am cancelled! This is happening 100% of the time! These facilities are making me a back up plan obviously and Nursa needs to step up and put an end to this game! After being cancelled so many times from a facility I decided to cancel my shifts with them and then Nursa dings me for it and put a hold on my account. This isn’t right. I’ll be looking at other companies where the facility is held accountable and not hitting me with being “irresponsible.”

CDPH 530 - California Only
Krishna Floisand posted a facility article in Clinician & Shift Management
In California, all healthcare facilities providing direct care services are required to have a signed California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Form 530 on file for each non-employee individual who is paid for direct care services (i.e. independent contractors). To help facilities fulfill this requirement, starting June 13, 2024 all clinicians will be required to e-sign a digital copy of the CDPH 530 form in order to be paid for the shift. Facilities will have access to e-sign their portion of the form and download completed copies for their records. This feature is active for all shifts completed in California. Use Nursa's new digital CDPH 530 form as a replacement to your current process or in addition to your existing workflow as a backup. How do I fill out CDPH 530 forms? As a facility user for shifts in California, you will be able to easily sign and complete the CDPH 530 form when submitting your facility shift report. Complete your shift report as normal The form will pop up and you will give your electronic signature Click "Sign and Confirm" Submit shift report Note: If a facility user does not complete their shift report and it is auto-verified, the form will need to be signed before downloading. How do I download CDPH 530 forms? Click the menu in the top left corner Scroll to "Data" tab Select "CDPH 530" If connected to multiple facilities, Select a Facility Filter by the shift date range you are interested in Select the forms you wish to download Select "Sign Selected" if signatures are still needed Note: You can only download forms that are signed Select "Download Selected" to download forms Note: This form is only available for facilities located in California. -
I’m extremely frustrated… In the app it offers, once you work 3 shifts you qualify for instant pay. What they don’t mention is it’s not vastly available in most states. It’s gravely irritating and frustrating that it offers pay is done on Mon and Wed then takes 2-3 days for it to appear in your acct. What I have learned is, as the medical staffer, we are expected to show up promptly and complete the shift to the facility expectations. However, they can take there time to complete the shift report. I worked a shift, it’s now been a week ago and it just now has been processed but I still have to wait 3 days for it to hit my acct. When most of these shifts are anywhere from 60-240 miles from my home. My gas tank doesn’t allow me to say “I know your empty but we must go to work anyway.” It takes money! My daycare provider does not allow me to say “sorry, I still have not been paid, so you have to wait.” Why is it acceptable for the facilities to take there sweet time to confirm you did the job? Working with Nursa, your payday is too unpredictable. That shows great unprofessionalism. There are so many other agencies that provide same day pay, I try to a avoid Nursa staffing as I have to ensure income in a timely fashion. In addition, if they are going to expect folks to assist with facilities it would be great if they offered the standard federal mileage reimbursement or lodging for back to back shifts at same facility. Especially as they allow pay to be delayed. I try not to recommend Nursa to my colleagues as I don’t like to hear the same bothersome complaints of 1. Payout 2. Unpredictable acceptance of shifts 3. Distance to facility without compensation 4. Often not having oncoming nurse coverage making you responsible to stay 5. Lack of communication from facility, especially related to several admissions 6. Facility expectation of you being the scape goat for the heavy unpleasant work load while the perm staff coast through the shift 7. Overall dissatisfaction with unprofessional tactics allowed from facilities. Staff being held at higher expectations then that of the facilities. Penalizing staff for need to cancel but “oh well” when the facility does.

I saw a facility I haven't seen very often or they are relatively new. Their facility photo is a photo of the Carnegie Village Retirement Village in Belton, Missouri. Carnegie Nursing Home is a far cry from that 5 star facility. If anything that made me laugh, but it is a bit deceiving.

Hi there… I’m new to Nursa. Just wondering how long it normally takes for a facility to accept and/or deny your request for shifts. I put in a week ago for 3 shifts and have done my profile work and messaged the facility with no response. What other steps do I need to take to make sure I get the shifts I requested to be accepted?

Integrations with Scheduling Software

Nursa has forged partnerships and tailored integrations with COVR, EasyShifts, UKG, and is actively in discussions with additional collaborations. If you employ scheduling software and are open to exploring custom integration options, please reach out to your Nursa Account Manager for further discussion. COVR Demo Video -
Daylight Saving Time begins on the second Sunday in March, moving clocks forward at 2AM, and ends on the first Sunday in November, with clocks turning back at 2AM. The Nursa app seamlessly adjusts for these transitions, ensuring accurate shift report calculations for facility invoices. If you are approving shifts reports during the transition, the app will tell you that your actual hours will be accurately reflected on your invoice, whether an extra hour or one less. Note: Hawaii and Arizona, non-participants in daylight savings, remain unaffected.

I’m new to nursa. Since being on nursa I’ve requested so many different positions as a CNA that were available 3 and 4 days prior. The day of my shifts I receive a notification saying my shift is already filled. Then an hour before that scheduled shift. I’m asked if I am still available to work the shift. (No, because once I was told filled. I went to my day job for work).Which shows someone the facility gave the position to they called in. I’m having a hard time understanding this. It seems to be a bit unprofessional and misleading. This should be a first come first serve situation. I am so grateful that I did not leave my day job to become an continuous employee with nursa because I would be without work due to the fact of the facilities having their favorite picks on staff. Which apparently their favorite picks don’t even show up for work. I chose to sign up for nursa because I’m currently working in the hospital 3 days of the week and its 12 hr shifts Doing overtime would be a bit much. Nursa gives you the benefit of working 8 hr shifts which works well for me plus from my understanding it’s a weekly pay,but what’s the hassle in requesting to work to only be disappointed when you’re rejected the day your shift starts. Nursa contract with these facilities needs to be revised because it’s unfair. Especially for families that really needs work to help feed their families.

Most facilities do not have the time to deny every request they get sent in, so is there anyway we can remove the facilities ability to let the shift requester know that they're not going to be accepted for the shift without the facility need to do so? And is there any way that the facility can have to choose what kind of shift it is? (Ex. On-call, full shift etc.) There should be an automated system that will allow the first requester to be confirmed and all others after to be denied or even just have the shift removed once one person already requested or has been confirmed by the shift. And a time limited request would be great so that way these facilities can't just post a shift and forget to respond to it. This app could use more accountability and be even more interactive on the facilities side.

There was a brief thread in July regarding facilities that post shifts but do not respond to clinicians who request them. In my previous post, I mentioned that there are certain facilities that post shifts that are not actually available, and it is misleading to clinicians and ultimately a waste of time. On Tuesday, I requested a posted shift for Friday, 12/08. I informed the scheduler about the shift this morning and included a snippet of her response. As far as I know, the facility is not known for doing this, and I hope it does not become a long-term problem. What measures has NURSA taken to discourage facilities from posting shifts 'just in case'?

This is a good app but allot of the staffing from facilities don't know what they want and that's not ok. I say this because I have requested 5 shifts from one facility all for the same day. I requested these shifts about a week ago, and 3 of them are for day two are for night. It's 1pm and the facility still hasn't done it's due diligence to say the shifts I requested for the day have been filled and I can assume correctly that my night request will not give me a notice. Why is this ok? I just don't get what is the point of saying you want help if you don't need it? I think a time limited request would help because these facilities are just fooling around with people's time and expectations and that's not ok.
-
If a facility cancels you last minute, its ok for them to do, but if we do it we get a 2 week ban? Thats ridiculous. I had a facility cancel my shifts today for a few hours from now, stating they filled it in house. Ok, but if I had done that to them, I'd be on a 2 week ban. Of course they can get away with it and no consequences for them, meanwhile I'm missing an entire nights work because I don't have anything open last minute to pick up. It's as inconvenient for me to plan to work over night and now I'm short an entire shift for the week and either have to take the pay cut or make it up. This has happened to others I know, one drove over an hour from where we live to be cancelled when she got there. This isn't acceptable at all and there should be some recourse for us. We spend our time and fuel to go to these places and fill their deficiencies, and they wonder why they can't keep appropriately staffed? I go to this place frequently, they call me at all hours to come cover shifts for them and I do. I told them today not to bother calling me to come cover down if they can't have the decency to not cancel a scheduled shift on me last minute.

I have never had this problem before and have no idea the exact solution. I requested an RN shift and was cancelled shortly after I was scheduled for the shift. I was in the middle of driving there so I may have missed the alert. Not sure exactly when the cancellation occurred. The message states "Facility has removed you from their shifts. You are no longer scheduled for this shift." In the Nursa terms it states a facility has to pay $75 if they simply cancel you before the shift starts and within 12 hours of the shift starting. I am not seeing any $75 payment. It also states in the terms that they must pay you 50% of the remainder of the shift if you are cancelled after the start time. I cannot see a time stamp, but I was able to tap "I'm Here" in the app on the shift, but found out that I was cancelled possibly after I arrived. How do I make sure I am receiving payment for this cancellation and getting the proper cancellation payment. At a minimum I believe I am owed $75, but I did arrive at the facility. The only thing that is not clear is when they actually removed me from the shift. I am unclear since there is no time stamp. I believe what happened is they double booked the same shift and picked the cheaper LPN worker. In my opinion just playing games. I called support and reported it, but I feel like support ignored the issue and gave me no assurance that I would receive anything. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? How did it turn out?
