Many facilities may require clinicians to take unpaid breaks. We know how those minutes also equal dollars when breaks aren't properly taken. So you can specify whether an unpaid break (lunch or rest break) is mandatory on your shift.
Note: Entering break time is completely optional (but recommended if your facility requires it) and should only be used for unpaid break time. Do not add any paid break times, as anything added by this process will automatically be unpaid.
Adding a Break Time
When you’re adding a new shift:
-
Tap Break
-
Tap Create new Break
-
Once you’ve created a break time, it will be available to use in the future, or you can create other break times as needed
-
-
Enter the break time in minutes, e.g. 30
-
The break time cannot be longer than the duration of the shift, so make sure you add the shift time first
-
-
Tap Save Break
-
If you add a break time but then want to remove it before posting the shift, you will need to set the break time to 0, as once it’s edited, it cannot be removed
-
-
Finish posting the shift
Clinicians will see the required break time on the Shift Details when reviewing and requesting a shift. You are not able to edit the break time after posting the shift until after when you’re completing your Shift Report.
The break time automatically populates on the Clinician and Facility Shift Reports. Clinicians can edit the reported break time, but they will receive a pop-up warning if they report less than the posted break time.
Facility users will also receive a warning if the break was less than the posted required break, and you can correct any discrepancies on your Facility Shift Report.
As mentioned above, break time is unpaid, so it won’t be calculated in the total pay when Shift Reports are submitted.
