Empathy is the answer for me! When someone is being difficult, it's always wise to put yourself in the patient's shoes...

Here is an article about dealing with patients with substance use disorder, including signs to help detect the problem, and tips on how to deal with it, as well as guiding the patient to the treatment they need.
