Nursa does not require 1099 contractors using the Nursa app to take unpaid breaks.
However, facilities using the Nursa app frequently do have policies that require clinicians working at their facilities to take unpaid lunch breaks.
When a shift includes a break, it is clearly noted on the shift detail view [see image]. Be sure to review shift break requirements before requesting a shift. When a facility includes a break on a shift, the facility is expecting that the clinician takes the stated break time. Facilities will not be billed nor will facilities pay a clinician for unused break time, working through a break, or not taking a break. Unless a facility indicates differently, clinicians will not be paid for the break time posted on a shift.
You are always encouraged to contact the facility directly before your shift or talk with the facility when you arrive to clarify any questions you may have about their policies. Facilities may also provide additional information on breaks and lunches in the shift instructions.
Mandatory Breaks
Facilities may utilize the mandatory break feature which will require mandatory breaks for the clinician. If the mandatory break is present in the shift details, the facility is requiring you to take the stated break time. Please ensure you take any mandated breaks as it has already been deducted from the shift in the estimated total.
By requesting a shift with a facility required break you understand that the facility will not pay for unused break time, working through the break, or not taking a break.
If you have any discrepancies with mandatory breaks, please leave comments when submitting your shift report.
